Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs plus 1 yolk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 tsp fine sea salt
- 10 oz dark chocolate, chopped, or chocolate chips
- Flaky salt, for finishing
Instructions

Whisk the melted butter with both sugars until glossy, about 1 minute.

Whisk in the eggs, yolk and vanilla until the batter is smooth.

Fold in the flour, baking soda and salt just until no dry streaks remain.

Stir in the chocolate, then rest the dough for 30 minutes at room temperature.

Scoop 2-tablespoon mounds onto lined sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.

Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 11 to 13 minutes, until the edges are set and centers look underdone.

Sprinkle with flaky salt and cool on the pan for 10 minutes before moving.
Cooking tips
- Chilling the dough overnight deepens the flavor if you have the time.
- Bake one test cookie first to check spread and adjust with a spoonful of flour.
- Freeze scooped dough balls and bake straight from frozen, adding 2 minutes.
